About Us

Our Vision

Our objective is to create a sustainable and thriving meadow that will serve as a model for other communities. We believe that by restoring native plants to our landscape, we can create a healthier ecosystem for both wildlife and people. We strive to inspire others to take action and make a difference in their own communities.

Our Team: Thornham United Charities

Our dedicated team of six local Trustees, all volunteers, has embarked on a  mission to transform our 17-acre field which, until November 2022, was leased out for farming. Now, we look forward to a tapestry of annual and perennial wildflowers among native trees. Memorial benches and picnic tables will be strategically placed across this lush area, offering tranquil areas for the entire village to enjoy.

The Journey

The journey began with the planting of 500 young trees along the hedgerow, installing safety fencing, and obtaining sponsorship for 25 nest boxes, including barn owl boxes. Grants were obtained to sow the field with wildflowers.

Crowdfunding

After years of being leased for farming, the field's potential for community and environmental benefit was clear to the Trustees. With the lease expiring in 2022, we took soundings and consultations with the village who were overwhelmingly in favour of the plan to create a wildflower meadow. Our successful Aviva Crowdfunding project will allow us to plant native trees, ensuring a diverse and balanced environment. Situated adjacent to the Village Hall and Playing Field, we will have a combined space of 26 acres as a permanent village asset.

Love walking through the jubilee meadow with our dog, en route to the farm shop! What a wonderful community project, in a village that I call home.
