Nest box update. Robert and John checked the small nest boxes distributed around the field and were delighted to find that 15 (exactly 50%) had been occupied, mainly by blue tits.
The Boal family and friends gathered on a perfect early evening in August at Graham Boal’s Memorial Bench to remember Graham and drink a toast.
Over the next week or so, Harry Bett will give the meadow a much-needed haircut! This will allow space for the perennial seeds to consolidate, and it is hoped that the cuttings will be removed for composting. We are grateful to Harry for finding time in the hectic farming calendar to do this for us.
In October, Oscar Jamieson and the team at Drove Farm will be planting a four acre area of rare apple tree species at the western side of the meadow.
October will also see Jules Baird from Barcham Trees, and Janek from JD Gardening, here to plant the second phase of 15 trees, at random, across the meadow. There are still a few Memorial Trees available. If you would like one, please contact johnwarham@hotmail.com.
At the end of October we will be arranging a small working party to plant a few 20kg. sacks of daffodil bulbs at the eastern boundary of the meadow. This should give us a good splash of colour in early Spring. More details later.
