Easter is Nearly Here!

Hard to believe that it is nearly Easter already, but there are definitely signs of Spring on Jubilee Meadow.

The trees which were planted at the beginning of March are quickly becoming established, and there is already leaf and blossom on some of the early flowering trees. It also looks as though the transplanted trees have survived the move and are looking healthy. The horse chestnuts are already in leaf.

A baseline survey of the grasses and plants which we currently have on the Meadow was carried out for us by Libby Pool of the Norfolk rivers Trust. This will allow us to keep track of and measure improvements as we move forward.

Skylarks are singing above the field and the first chiffchaff was heard calling on March 18th. At least two of the blue tit nest boxes are already in use and, best of all, it looks as though a pair of kestrels has decided to set up home - though it is not quite clear yet, which of the boxes they are going to occupy. It is exciting news though, especiallly as the kestrel box only went up in January.
