Late Spring and we have a Meadow!

The meadow is looking magnificent. The ox-eye daises, one of 65 varieties of seed in the major perennial strip have flowered, creating a brilliant white sea of flowers. It will be five years before the perennial seeds fully flower, so we still have another three years to see what will surprise and delight us.
We continue to take professional advice to ensure the success of the meadow. We are meeting Jules Baird from Barcham Trees, who supplied the new trees and Janek, who led the planting team. They will assess the state of the trees and advise how to move forward.
Keeping the new trees watered over the long dry spell has been tough, but absolutely essential, work. Robert, John and Colin have carried out a weekly watering programme that seems to have worked so far.
Further proof of the importance of the work we have done was provided by a request from Norfolk Coastal Partnership to film Jubilee Meadow. This is part of a wider record being made of developments to improve the environment, green spaces and bio-diversity along the coast. The corridor effect should help some species to spread successfully and increase numbers to more viable levels.
Grateful thanks to all the supporters and volunteers who have helped with the meadow. The seeds spread along the annual strip in late March should soon show some colourful results. Other volunteers have cut back the brambles, and we will soon be looking for another working party to do attack the ragwort.
We still have one or two Memorial Trees available. If you would like one, please contact us via the website, www.thornhamjubileemeadow.co.uk
