Mid Summer on the Meadow

We hope everyone is enjoying the meadow now that some of the early results are beginning to show. The strip of annuals, is now in full flower and is a bright display of poppies, cornflowers and ox-eye daises. The larger area of perennials will not show for a number of years, so we must be patient.

·      The trees from Barcham and the transplants from our small copse, are in leaf and growing well. We are urgently looking to see how we can get them supplied with a regular source of water over the summer months.

·      There is still a lot of work to be done, and we are meeting with our consultants, Ed Cross form Abbey Farm, and Jules Baird from Barcham Trees, later this week to plan for the next phase. Currently, we intend to plant another 20 trees in autumn 2024.

·      Our kestrels have successfully fledged at least three young from the owl box and five of the tit boxes have been occupied.

·      We know that the grass is in serious need of a cut, but we are taking advice as to the best time to do this. Clearly, we want the flowers to seed before we chop them down, or there will be nothing to see next year! Similarly, we need to cut paths through the meadow to access to the picnic benches more easily.
