The heavy rains throughout October and November helped us to understand how farmers must feel. Not surprisingly Ed Cross, our consultant on the wildflowers, had to delay the sowing of the seed via a heavy tractor. With a brief break in the rain, and some intuitive and inventive thinking, Ed was finally to organise the seed planting on 23rd November to the relief of all. Thanks Ed!
The Aviva Wild Isles Crowdfunder raised just under £30,000 with donations, match funding, and Gift Aid. A great achievement and we are very grateful to all the support we have received.
This has allowed us to start discussions with Barcham Trees, based in Ely, about the type and number of trees needed, and we are close to securing a deal with them to plant the majority of the Memorial Trees by Spring 2024.
We will also be collecting 125 saplings bought from Norfolk County Council's subsidised scheme in December. These will be planted to strengthen the hedges on the boundaries of the meadow. Additionally, we are looking to purchase memorial plaques for the trees in the memorial grove.
All the Memorial Benches are now in place, and we are working on designing two Information Boards to go at either end of the meadow. Still a lot to do!
